ToPa 3D provides SCAN to BIM services

Providing a digital replica of the existing building for all project stakeholders to collaboratively visualize, analyze, and optimize the renovation or construction process.

Our cutting-edge Scan to BIM services, powered by 3D scanning and drone technology, unlock the hidden potential of existing buildings.

We meticulously capture real-world conditions using laser scanners, and drones ensure hard-to-reach areas are included.

This data is then transformed into intelligent 3D BIM models using Revit software. This translates to unparalleled accuracy, fostering better collaboration across disciplines throughout your project.

From clash detection to facility management, Scan to BIM empowers you with a powerful solution for as-builts for renovations, historic preservation, and more.

Instead of relying only on aerial photos, Scan to BIM goes beyond the surface. It captures every intricate detail of the existing building, providing all project stakeholders with a precise as-built. This digital twin allows for a collaborative environment where architects, engineers, and contractors can visualize potential challenges, optimize layouts, and identify potential clashes before construction even begins.

DATA collection

Laser scanners meticulously collect data points throughout the building, creating a digital representation of its geometry. Drones might access hard-to-reach areas, while photogrammetry can supplement scans in well-lit spaces for simpler structures.

Processing and modeling

Raw scan data undergoes processing with specialized software. Noise is removed, multiple scans are stitched together if needed, and the data is optimized for BIM platforms like Revit. Skilled modelers then translate this point cloud into a detailed 3D BIM model, identifying and converting building elements into intelligent BIM objects.

Coordination and delivery

The BIM model undergoes a final accuracy check before being shared for collaborative analysis. Architects, engineers, and contractors can identify potential clashes and optimize the design. Finally, customized deliverables are provided, including 3D views, 2D drawings, and relevant BIM data to support construction planning.

Atomic Drone Mapping

In one of our more recent and challenging projects, ToPa 3D was contracted to perform a somewhat complex volume calc of a mining quarry in South Carolina. A special shout out to our team member, Dr. Anson Hancock who processed this project and who seems to have no fear of any project - regardless of size or complexity.

Our mission was to produce a 3D model that could provide a rough order of magnitude of the quarry volume in specific areas. With a drone and 20mp camera, our team generated a 3D model using Pix4Dmapper software, tying the imagery captured into an orthomosiac and 3D model. We also generated a point cloud that would later be converted to Recap and imported into Autodesk's Civil3D 2020 software package.

[ToPa 3D’s team] is working at the cutting edge of 3D capture and modeling and aside from being a professional in his field, he is a wonderful person, extremely helpful to others, and always trying to innovate and collaborate. He also writes highly informative articles for various magazines and I always enjoy reading his work. I highly recommend Paul.
- Andrea S. Laliberte, Remote Sensing Scientist, Earthmetrics

Recently we had aerial topography work done at one of our mine sites here in South Carolina. Traditionally we would have an airplane fly over using expensive methods to capture this data. Fortunately we found ToPa 3D, a company that uses drones to collect imagery and then transform this information into really cool 3D maps! We are proud to be on the leading edge of technology in the mining industry, and thank ToPa 3D for their innovative services. [They] are a very professional staff using the most advanced equipment. These guys were able to quickly give us all the data we needed! Highly recommended.
- Ryan Williams, owner of Atomic Gravel and Sand

ToPa 3D went above and beyond on my project, which involve shooting half a dozen remote and undeveloped parcels for stills and video. They also provided a color enhancement service, which was done exceptionally well. I would hire them again in an instant, and recommend that you do too!
